Organs

Four trans­plant patients in Chicago have con­tracted HIV from the organ donor. It is alleged to be the first case of such trans­mis­sion in the U.S. in 13 years. Ini­tial tests on the donor for HIV, hepati­tis and other con­di­tions came back neg­a­tive, most likely because the donor had acquired the infec­tions in the last three weeks before death. Per­sonal details about the donor were not released [to the recip­i­ents or their doc­tors] by med­ical offi­cial [sic] offi­cials, who cited pri­vacy laws. Empha­sis added. The screen­ing process has, granted, been (appar­ently) suc­cess­ful in pre­vent­ing tis­sue trans­plant trans­mis­sion of HIV for 13 years. And for [ . . . ]

Bee Movie

It is not my ordi­nary prac­tice to com­ment on or review films before I have seen them, but I make excep­tion here to tell every­one who will lis­ten why I will not see ani­mated Jerry Sein­feld vehi­cle Bee Movie. I have not seen it. And I will not. The cause for my refusal is view­able on the “Mem­o­rable Quotes” page for the film at the Inter­net Movie Data­base, which you may view by click­ing here. Here is the offend­ing quote. For con­text, I am aware that “Moose­blood” is an ani­mated anthro­po­mor­phic mos­quito.
